SAINTE-ANNE
AND THE AREA'S OTHER 19TH CENTURY CHURCH,
BUILT IN THE 1850'S AND 20 MINUTES AWAY
(please click and scroll down)
• The urban layout changes
° In the 1850's
the church is built at the end of a long, straight street
meant for marching troops,
with around it a space where they can assemble
and be separated from residents
Notre-Dame de la Gare and rue Jeanne d'Arc
![]() |
Space and street continue behind the church. |
° In the 1890's
the edifice is on crossroads,
and gives out on the sidewalk
There is no space for massing troops. In fact, one must take side streets even to circle the church.
