VIII.6.6. DRUMS, DANCE, BRAZILIAN MUSIC, BRITISH JUGGLERS

THE LAST DAY BEGINS WITH A MASS WALK AROUND  PLACE D'ITALIE

City Hall
The Nelken line unites the participants by evoking the seasons. Two dancers from the German troop of Pina Bausch, who invented the line, were present.

Then...

Drumming that harks back to the teen-aged percussionists' Creole, African, Middle Eastern, Indian and South American origins.

VIII.8. THE OBSCURE 13TH, A PLACE TO PITCH YOUR TENT?

IF YOU VISIT PARIS, THINK OF STAYING IN AN AREA THAT MOST TOURISTS OVERLOOK

The junction of three bus and three métro lines at City Hall put the area about 20 minutes from the center.

If you plan in advance you can stay in an excellent hotel, which a family has held for over 30 years. A friend writes... "Can you suggest a modest hotel? The place you found for us a few years ago that you found was very nice."

It was Le Vert Galant :

It has...
  • Intimacy.
  • Rooms that give out onto its private garden.
  • An excellent price / quality ratio.

The tranquility comes from being next to the park that now covers over the Bièvre River. Imagining the combat that raged over its islands while repressing La Commune (in 1871) is almost impossible:

For lunch...

  •  Picnic in one of the parks, with cheese from this shop.

Genty gastronomie
169 boulevard Vincent Auriol
(a few minutes from parc de Choisy)

It does is own aging and suggests special deals. For baguettes, there's a pleasant boulangerie across the street.

    • Or choose between two inexpensive restaurants for discerning locals on a quiet, shaded square across the street (place des Alpes).

The street barriers protect a school, so you dine on a terrace with no passage of cars.

For both, recent greening makes dining even more pleasant.

Such change is happening throughout Paris:

IN 2025

The New York Times, June 28, 2025

Yet an estimated 3500 people look on or join in:

City Hall is in the background.

At the end the MC said,
"Creation comes from all of us.
In these troubled times,
it's not fear but love that counts."
