AN ISLAM THAT IS FERVENT AND TOLERANT

A BELIEF THAT IS MUCH CLOSER TO CHRISTIANITY THAN MANY REALIZE:  "ISSA," OR JESUS, IS MOHAMMED'S PREDECESSOR AND IT IS HE, NOT MOHAMMED, WHO WILL ANNOUNCE THE END OF TIMES

What I have come upon in La Goutte d'Or brings great respect because of its:

  • Discipline. Friday prayers were held in the street. Their unity and order were striking. City finally granted an interior space (in 2012).

  • Generosity

    • Messages on the walls stress welcome to immigrants and the demand for dignity and justice.

Free daily distribution of meals to take away
(don't forget your recipient),

"In the Paris region, lodging solutions do not follow 87% of expulsions"

"Hate engenders hate."

    • The Institute for the Cultures of Islam follows the Muslim command of charity with the distribution of food in an unbuilt lot a few steps from Barbès and an associated café where  a poster shows the same ethic as the paintings in the church:
"The Open Table.
Distribution of meals,
7/7 to noon and at 5 pm."

  • Tolerance: A store for Muslim books and wares and a wine shop face each other and a poster for Joan of Arc, symbol of France's anti-Muslim right, is on a wall nearby:

Librairie Bazar
17 rue Myrha
What looks like teapots are for ablutions before prayer.

Do not fear to believe.

  • Just plain niceness: A passage from the Koran alone adorns this tiny, spartan restaurant. Chef and clients could not be more hospitable.

That is part of the African amiability,
among the reasons why visiting the area
is such a pleasure.
